What is Instagram Ads?
Instagram Ads are paid placements inside the Instagram app, bought through the same stack as Meta Ads: Ads Manager, shared pixel, billing, and moderation. Instagram does not have a separate performance ad console; it is a placement within Meta’s ecosystem.
Formats include Feed, Stories, Reels, Explore, and Shop tab placements. The visual, mobile-first nature makes Instagram a key channel for e-commerce, lifestyle niches, mobile apps, and verticals driven by video creative (nutra, dating, fashion).
Main formats
- Feed ads. Carousel, single image, or video in the feed; classic format for CTR and CR tests.
- Stories ads. Full-screen 9:16, up to 15 seconds; high reach, short attention — first 3 seconds and CTA matter.
- Reels ads. Video between organic Reels; growing placement for UGC-style native creative.
- Explore ads. Shown in Explore for reach beyond followers.
Targeting and optimization
Audience, budget, and objective settings match Facebook: interests, demographics, lookalikes, custom audiences, optimization for conversions or link clicks. The buyer selects placements in the ad set — Instagram-only or combined with Facebook for volume. Meta’s algorithm splits delivery across placements when Advantage+ placements are enabled.
Role in arbitrage
Instagram delivers quality mobile traffic with familiar UX: users swipe and tap outbound links quickly. A typical funnel: video in Reels/Stories → pre-landing or landing page → offer; tracking via tracker URL plus Meta Pixel/CAPI. CPC and CPM run higher than push/pop networks, but approval rates and LTV are often better on white hat offers.
Moderation
Meta policies apply across placements: prohibited content, misleading health/finance claims, explicit adult. Before/after creatives, aggressive promises, and hidden subscriptions often get disapproved. Sensitive verticals rely on bridge pages and strict policy compliance — otherwise account bans are likely.
