What is a Spy Tool?

A spy tool (ad spy, creative intelligence) is a SaaS service that indexes competitors' ads: banners, video, copy, landings, GEO, ad network, run duration. Examples: AdPlexity, Anstrex, AdSpy, PowerAdSpy. Media buyers use spy tools for research before testing their own funnels.

What you can learn

  • Creatives running longer—heuristic for working funnels.
  • Formats by vertical (nutra advertorial, gambling bonus, sweep quiz).
  • Targeting GEO and language; sometimes landing URL and funnel path.

Data is aggregated via crawlers, partner feeds, and user submissions—not official ad-platform APIs.

Limitations

Indexing lag: the creative may already be dead. Copying others' assets ≠ positive ROI—different account, bid, landing, approve rate. Copying TM and misleading assets risks bans and legal action. Spy tools are research, not 1:1 clone blueprints.

Buyer workflow

Filter by vertical + GEO → shortlist creatives → adapt (don't copy) the angle → small-budget test → scale via tracker and sub ids. Spy data never replaces split tests and postback analysis.
