What is Incentivized Traffic?

Incentivized traffic is users motivated by a reward unrelated to offer value: app points, virtual currency, discount, “earn $1 for install”. Incentive distorts intent: CR may exist while LTV and approval are near zero.

Most CPA networks and advertisers ban incentivized traffic in terms; detection leads to non-payment, fines, and bans. Exceptions — offers that explicitly allow incent (some app installs, survey walls).

Where it appears

Offer walls, GPT sites, some opaque pop/push inventory, mobile install fraud. Masked as “engagement” campaigns.

Detection

Abnormally high CR with zero rebill, short sessions, identical device profiles, GEO mismatch. Advertisers check D1/D7 retention; networks use fraud score and manual samples.

For media buyers

Confirm “non-incent only” in IO. If the source smells incent — change placement and segment. Deliberate incent without permission is fraud and reputational risk.
