What is Cold Traffic?

Cold traffic is users with no prior awareness of the brand, product, or problem the offer solves. They see the ad for the first time in feed, push, or banner and have not been warmed (content, email, retargeting).

Most paid prospecting campaigns in arbitrage are cold. CR is lower than warm; hook, pre-land, and landing trust matter more.

Raising CR

  • Pre-landing — advertorial, quiz, “news” before the offer.
  • Social proof — reviews, numbers, urgency (without misleading claims).
  • Segmentation — tight interest/LAL vs. broad.

Metrics

Compare cold CPA separately from retargeting in one ad account — blended ROAS hides losing prospecting. Cold break-even ROI is often 30–50% higher than warm.

Sources

Push, pop, broad social, much native — typically cold. Generic search is mixed intent. Cold is not “bad” — it needs a longer funnel and testing.
