What is a Click ID?

A click ID is a unique string assigned by a tracker or ad platform to each click on a tracking link. It links the visit to a later conversion: the affiliate network returns the same ID in a postback, and the system knows which campaign produced the lead or sale.

In trackers (Keitaro, Binom, ATracker, etc.) the click ID is often clickid or macro {clickid} in offer URLs. Meta passes fbclid, Google gclid, TikTok ttclid; the tracker may store them in sub parameters for conversion upload back to ads.

Lifecycle

  1. User clicks tracking URL → tracker generates click ID and logs GEO, UA, source, campaign.
  2. ID is appended to offer or landing URL (?sub1={clickid}).
  3. On conversion the network hits postback: https://tracker.com/postback?clickid=ABC123&status=lead.
  4. Tracker matches ABC123 and credits the conversion in reports.

Common failures

Lost ID on redirects (macro not forwarded), truncated ID by a proxy, duplicates on re-click without a last/first policy. Without a valid ID the conversion is “orphan” — revenue for the advertiser, not for the media buyer.

Relation to sub ID

Click ID is one per click; sub IDs (sub1–subN) are extra labels for in-campaign detail (creative, placement). Colloquially “subid” is confused with click ID; network docs treat them separately.
